Recent News07-08-2005 Israeli Government's Public Transportation Security Partner - 'Sniff & Protect Pups for Peace' Program - Extends Free Expertise and Resources to British & Worldwide Governments to Help Public Transportation Security. Expert Opinion Available to Press on the Critical Role of Canine Defense Services Based on Proven Track Record in Israel LOS ANGELES, July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- London's tragedy today emphasized the vulnerability of and importance for finding long term public transportation safety solutions worldwide. The State of Israel, with the most tested and highly respected counter-terrorism programs of any country around the world, has recognized, embraced and utilized today a state-of-the-art counter-terrorism program of deterrence, detection and interdiction with canine teams and their human handlers developed and operated by Pups For Peace (Pupsforpeace.org). The organization was instrumental in preventing such bombing attempts as the one planned against Jerusalem's Cafe Caffirt set for July 14, 2004 and continues to demonstrate its effectiveness on a daily basis throughout the State of Israel. IDF and the Israeli Police have reported the effectiveness of the PFP dogs and invited their deployment into all of Israel's major metropolitan areas, as well as to many of its strategic locations. Steve Saltzman and Ronnie Lotan, the organization's U.S. National Director and Israeli Director General jointly stated, "Unfortunately, in Israel we have extensive experience of public transportation and other terrorist bombing targets. Today, as we extend our condolences to all those affected by the terrorist attacks on London, we want to offer to extend our expertise and share our knowledge with the British government and governments around the world who wish to strengthen the daily safety of their public transportation systems, and other potential terrorist targets, through the continuing deployment of bomb detecting canine teams." Technically the PFP program is unique because of the proprietary state-of-the-art service it created -- incorporating a highly developed system of selection, training, quality control and deployment -- and maintains in working with various Israeli government and non-governmental agencies. Saltzman, who just returned from a two week fact finding trip to Israel notes: "As a result of my recent visit with Israeli government officials, it was gratifying that Pups for Peace received a formal request from Mr. Eli Arussi, Chief Superintendent, Operations and Security Department, Public Transportation for additional counter-terrorism assistance. In his letter to PFP, Mr. Aruusi stated "In the past two years, Pups For Peace has operated numerous dog teams in the public transportation sector that have been highly praised. The Security Department views positively the addition of many teams, across Israel, in order to secure buses and bus stops, and trains of all types including passenger, freight and those carrying hazardous materials." "Mr. Arrussi request amounted to a near doubling of the current program service level now being provided by PFP to the State of Israel, and we will do everything we can to meet this need as rapidly as possible" stated Saltzman. "Pups For Peace" is a not-for profit international humanitarian and counter-terrorism organization that works in conjunction with the Israeli government and its security services to help defend its civilians from the kind of attacks that took place today in London. The concept for PFP originated with Santa Monica-based Milken Institute Director of Capitol Programs Dr. Glen Yago after the 2002 Pessah massacre at the Park Hotel in Netanya.
